The day started driving up the A30 with the windscreen wipers on full speed. Seeing flashes of light and bellows of thunder, I thought to myself how the rain can make for beautiful photos. Oh, and that a bit of rain on your wedding day is meant to bring you luck. But fear not, as I got closer to the venue, the skies began to clear and let through beautiful golden autumnal sunshine. From thunder and lighting to beautiful sunlight, not the weather I thought it was going to be.

Sam and Mirren’s wedding was so beautifully crafted, from the vibrant terracotta table dressings to the beautiful emotion. It was a jam-packed wedding full of laughter and happy tears from the moment I walked through the door at Avalen. Below you’ll find a slideshow and a few photos showing you all of the best bits. You really do get a sense of getting married close to nature. The large barns have a rustic charm to them, creating a wild romantic feel. You have the option to really make this wedding your own, so go wild and share your wedding vision with them to create an amazing celebration.

I almost forgot that, as an added personal touch, you get the opportunity to plant a tree along side the ancient woodlands at the farm.

A few words from Sam & Mirren

Tell me about your The Beginning! 

We met online and met for the first time, taking our dogs to Tehidy woods for a walk. Mirren got a taxi to the date, and when he dropped her off, he said to invite him to the wedding! Little did he know how right he would be! After our first date was finished, Mirren also told her friend that she was going to marry that boy, again correctly predicting the future.

When and where did you get engaged? 

We took a quiet weekend away to stay in a shepherds hut in Bodmin (not far from where we are getting married, incidentally!). Sam had planned to propose over Christmas, but after the ring got delayed, he had to make other plans. He lit a firepit, put on their favourite song – which would go on to be their first dance song – and asked Mirren for a dance. At the chorus he got down on one knee, took the ring out of his jacket pocket and proposed. Mirren burst into tears but forgot to say the important word until Sam had to remind her that she had to answer the question, at which point she said YES!

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day? 

Terracotta and pink, very warm, Mediterranean. Eclectic mixture of vases and candle holders. Lots of fairy lights making it sparkly, warm and most importantly, fun.

What are you most looking forward to on the day? 

Sam – The quiet period to ourselves once the ceremony has finished where we can take a breather and take in the moment of being married before the party begins.

Mirren – Seeing Sam at the end of the aisle waiting to marry me… And dancing like a nutter all night!

Top Tips! 

Sam – Don’t stress the small stuff.

Mirren – Don’t put pressure on yourself to enjoy the planning phase; it’s hard, so get excellent vendors to make it fun.
