SAY HELLO
The Engagement Shoot of Ella and James in Portland, Dorset, UK
This engagement shoot involved a bit more traveling than I normally do in just one day. But I thought why not, I’d never been to Portland, Dorset before. It was completely worth every mile I drove, but next time I think I’d get a hotel. Sleeping in the car on the way back didn’t quite cut it.
I’d never really thought about going to Portland, Dorset. To be honest I didn’t think it had much to offer. Anyone from Portland reading this is probably thinking right now how wrong I am. Trust me I was wrong. We met at a little car park high up just above Chesil beach. The view from up by the car park was outstanding. It felt like you were in the clouds. I was so happy just being able to look out on this view, it definitely perked me up after the drive.
Ella and James are a lovely couple and I’m so happy they reached out to me to photograph their engagement. They even bought me some chocolates and wine – like how great are they! We met up in the car park and went off for a wander to find the coastal path. You could tell it was going to be a lovely evening by the number of people that had bought their picnic blankets to watch the sunset. It was quiet and a peaceful evening hearing all the birds chirping. Oh yes, I haven’t mentioned yet, they knew what to wear. They looked stunning. It’s so important to get your outfit right. You want to be able to look back on these photos and not regret the outfit choice. Remember timeless and elegant, then you’re going to nail it!
As we got off the beaten track my eyes kept darting around seeing so many locations that I could capture the perfect moments. We stopped off along the path when a place really stood out to all of us. It was a warm golden evening with a scattering of clouds, perfect for photography in my opinion. The first part of the walk took us around some lovely ruins, through a boardwalk, and then onto the cliffs overlooking Chesil Beach and beyond. All gorgeous natural moments with a few posey images thrown in. As we finished walking along the coastal path, overlooking the vast scenery down below, the sun started to set with a stunning array of colours. Now this moment was definitely worth photographing! Don’t worry I captured some picture-postcard moments. And this is where our evening draws in, what a way to spend an evening. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. Meeting new people and going to new locations. I love my job!
Finally, I like to finish off our little adventure with some kind words from Ella and James –
“Jake was the photographer for my fiancé and I’s engagement shoot, and we both highly recommend him! We had never done any kind of photoshoot before and were both quite nervous, but Jake was absolutely lovely and so down to earth, he made us feel completely comfortable during the shoot. We were so happy with the pictures we received, they captured our relationship perfectly and looked so natural. We will always treasure those pictures and we are both so grateful to Jake for such a wonderful experience!”
