SAY HELLO
Laura & Jonno – An Epic Driftwood Spars Wedding
Saturday was a brilliant day. I returned home from a dazzling wedding up in the Cotswolds to race back down to Cornwall help celebrate Laura and Jonno’s wedding. This was definitely one epic wedding. I might of just been there for a few hours, but wow it was jam packed full of special moments. Laura and Jonno tied the knot at a beautiful venue perched right on the coast – Driftwood Spars.
A little bit about Driftwood Spars –
Located just a stones throw away from the picturesque bay of Trevaunance Cove. The Driftwood Spars is home to epic sea views and its own brewery.
A quite laid back venue can suit most peoples tastes. Plus what is not to like when you’re right by the sea. The history behind the Driftwood Spars is a bit more intriguing.
The Driftwood Spars’ name comes from the huge beams (or spars) that forms its structure. The spars were salvaged from shipwrecks along the coast and were utilised to build the Driftwood in the 1650s. The building began life as a tin mining warehouse and since then has been a chandlery, sail making loft and fish cellar. Not all at once mind. Before finally being converted into a hotel and bar in the early 1900s. Its wealth of character offers a distinctive charm that really needs to be checked out.
I’ll now pass you over to Laura and Jonno so they can give you an insight into their Wedding –
Tell Me About The Beginning –
We first met at a house party in Manchester, where we were both living at the time. We had both just returned from travelling (Laura was travelling around Indonesia, Bali and Thailand with friends) and (Jonno lived in New Zealand for a year). Both very drunk, Jonno followed Laura around all night and Laura was too drunk to care. Lots of dates were arranged which Laura kept cancelling, they finally met up for a few dates for drinks which were fun, Jonno talked lots about teaching and then a new years eve party and from new years eve 2014, we were inseparable.
When and Where Did You Get Engaged?
It was Laura’s birthday – 27th November 2019, and Jonno surprised me first thing in the morning with a ring in a box, wrapped up in lots of layers as a birthday present. It was very private and special. Laura thought that she was getting a new pair of wetsuit gloves, so was very surprised!
What Style/Theme Have You Gone For Your Wedding?
All of the flowers will be bright colours (corals and cobalt blues) to hopefully show our (we think) fun personalities. The flowers are wild flowers from Jonno’s dad and step mum’s garden, so that everything looks rustic and relaxed (again like us). We are keeping elements of our love of surfing and jonno’s mountain biking through table names and place cards, and trying to bring lots of bright colour to a beachy setting (so floaty voile curtains for the ceremony with pampass grass).
What Is The Thing You’re Looking Forward To Most About Your Day?
Having a huge party with all of our close family and best friends
Top Tips!
Book your venue and date as far in advance as possible, so that booking everything is relaxed and fun to plan!
Also – involving well meaning family and friends with little tasks, not only takes lots of stress away from you, but makes them feel happy that they are involved and takes a lot of stress out of the process!
