A Cornwall Proposal: Holywell Bay
The Cornish coastline has some of the most amazing and epic views. You can definitely see why Cornwall has lots of visitors flocking to see the awesome landscape. I grew up in Surrey, but in 2012 I called Cornwall my home. Since then, I feel I can never be too far from the sea. It has something that just draws you to it.
Today I’m starting with a little post all about a Cornwall proposal at Holywell Bay that I had the honour of photographing this week. It was such an amazing moment, a special chapter in lots of people’s lives. The day started off cloudy, but the weather changed so quickly, as if the weather knew there was about to be a Cornwall proposal at Holywell Bay. Imagine this: gorgeous blue skies, turquoise waters, and the sun shining; it almost felt as though we were in the Mediterranean. Just perfect, am I right?
This was a surprise proposal in Cornwall, so I had to try and blend in, but keep an eye on what’s going on. It’s quite hard with a camera. But we managed it… Ellie had no clue. I won’t let on any more.
It is time to let me hand you over to the brilliant couple—meet Jason and Ellie.
A Cornwall Proposal: Meet Jason & Ellie
A Cornwall Proposal: Jason and Ellie’s Story (through the words of Jason) –
Their Story:
Ellie and I met in London after we matched on a dating website (hinge). The first time we were meant to meet, we actually had to postpone after I forgot my outfit for the evening! We eventually met two days later in a bar called ‘the folly’ in the bank. We hit it off right away! She laughed at my jokes, and I thought she was beautiful. What a lucky guy I was!
We carried on dating and soon after became boyfriend and girlfriend. Ellie made the tough decision a few months later to move back home to Wolverhampton to retrain as a teacher. We kept on dating, and I travelled up on a Friday night (2 hours to wolves) and back on a Sunday for the next 6 months. It was tough, but she made it work and loved meeting all of Elliot’s family and friends. The pandemic hit, and I didn’t see her for 9 weeks, only talking to her on FaceTime.
We watched Netflix together, pausing it constantly to make sure we were on the exact same episode. We met up in Spice Ball Country Park, which was halfway between wolves and Watford. We distanced ourselves the whole time on separate picnic blankets, and I blew her kisses from a distance. Weeks later, I came to the wolves and brought my tent to stay in the garden (to not break rules). This was the first time in over 3 months that I held Ellie’s hand (I couldn’t wait any longer).
As lockdown eased, we decided that we wanted to get a house together as the distance was difficult and I knew I loved her. Each weekend we went to view houses, and after 3 viewings, we found our dream house in Penn, Wolverhampton, and bought it in July 2020. I lived with Ellie’s mum and dad for the next 9 months while we completely renovated the property. We ripped out chimney breasts, ceilings, wallpaper, stairs, and carpets and completely made them our own.
We moved in May 2021. I travelled to work in Coventry in the NHS, specialising as a respiratory physiologist, while Ellie got her dream job at the local primary school as a year 5 teacher. We don’t have any pets, but we plan to have 2-3 children in the future.
We are actually very different, but that is what makes us work. Ellie is very certain of what she wants, can get stressed, but is so utterly thoughtful and has a heart of gold. I’ve never met someone more caring. I am cool, calm, and collected, and I take life in the slow lane. She is fire and I am water, and together they get me on track, and I calm her down. We both meet in the middle and make the right decision. She wears the trousers, but she has a heart of gold.Wolves
Why a Cornwall proposal?
I picked Cornwall because I thought it would be the most beautiful setting for a proposal. We both love the coast. I knew she wanted somewhere remote, romantic, and with a photographer for the moment. She is currently on the phone with her other friend (also called Elle), saying, ‘The boy did well’. We were so lucky with the weather, you never know what you’ll get in Cornwall.
What are your plans next?
The plans next are an engagement party at ours in the next few months with all our family and friends. There was lots of socialising to meet everyone, show off the ring, take photos, and catch up with everyone.
The wedding will be in a church with Ellie’s dad (who is a vicar) walking her down the aisle and performing the service! Then, we want to have the most amazing venue (to be decided, maybe classic, outdoors, tents, or beach), but the most important thing will be the drinks flowing and a great band! We just want a massive party and everyone to remember it.
Their story is brilliant; I absolutely love it. But let’s take you on the little proposal adventure through a selection of photos and a slideshow.
