How To Look Your Best In Your Wedding Photos
Planning your dream wedding in Cornwall or anywhere across the UK? As a Cornwall wedding photographer specialising in documentary wedding photography. Yes, you’re most probably going to be surprised by the figures. Seeing in groups and a recent survey, I was shocked to discover that nearly 40% of brides regret their wedding photos! We’re going to jump in to why this is and why it is my mission to help all couples love their real, beautiful, heartfelt, natural photos and have no wedding photography regrets.
Grab a glass of wine or hot cuppa and let’s get you looking and feeling your best in wedding photos …
Research From A Wedding Photographer: WHY CLOSE TO 40 % OF BRIDES HAVE REGRETS
The statistic is madness, am I right? 40% of brides have regrets about their wedding photos. Like, this shouldn’t be a thing. As a UK wedding photographer dedicating my style to the world of documentary wedding photography, I couldn’t accept that so many couples were disappointed with memories from their most important day.
Being able to look back on your memories of the best day of your life should be filled with beautiful emotion and wonderful happy memories.
Unfortunately, I have heard on many occasions of couples feeling let down by their photographer because they didn’t share the same vision or didn’t give the wedding photography experience they were after. Resulting in unflattering photos of themselves and their guest because of the style of photos. Picture this: you two hugging around a tree; cheesy, right?
What a disappointment!
Sadly, a lot of photographers don’t understand that it’s not just about the beautiful compositions, backdrops, and even moments. Though those are all important, it is an absolute necessity to be a master in the art of natural posing (with a hint of guidance) to ensure the bride and groom look absolutely amazing on the best day of their lives.
So I Decided To Do Some Research
And I came across this study that mentioned that close to 40% of brides had regrets when it came to their wedding photos.
“Wow!” I thought to myself.
I couldn’t believe that percentage was so high!
I started digging deeper to really see the reasons why these brides are unhappy, and this is what I found…
1. “Our photographer got drunk, and you can see the photos in the gallery getting blurrier and blurrier as you scroll through.”
2. “They just really didn’t seem to know what he was doing! He didn’t guide us during the portrait session, and we were just standing there awkwardly!”
3. “They only captured moments of my husband and I, not of our close friends and loved ones. That was really disappointing.”
And that was just the tip of the iceberg …
I take pride in my photojournalistic and documentary wedding photography style, and after seeing almost half of the brides out there being extremely unhappy with the results they were getting from other so-called professional photographers, I couldn’t help but be extremely proud of what every single one of my couples has said about me.
Take, for instance, this amazing wedding photography review from Kelly and Jack’s Harbour Hotel Padstow wedding, who said:
We were lucky enough to have Jake with us for our wedding to capture our day in beautiful Padstow. Jake did a fantastic job of capturing the special moments throughout the day and took us to some stunning spots to capture some lovely couple photos. He was an absolute joy to have on our day and made us feel at ease. If anyone is looking for a Cornwall wedding photographer, we would 100% recommend Jake.
From the first consultation right up to the day of the wedding, Jake was incredibly helpful and made the entire process extremely straightforward and fun to plan. He has been very easy to talk to and took on board all of our ideas and preferences.
Our photos look absolutely stunning, and we are incredibly happy with how they have turned out. Thank you so much, Jake!
How To Look Your Best In Wedding Photos: The Art Of Natural Posing
Natural posing is an ART all in itself. But understandably, it’s an art that a lot of couples are nervous about, and SADLY, a lot of so-called “professional” wedding photographers actually don’t know how to naturally guide couples into beautiful natural poses.
Personally, as a Cornish wedding photographer travelling across the UK, I can understand why natural posing is hard to master, so I knuckled down and developed these core principles that work whether you’re having an intimate elopement or a grand wedding celebration:
So if you happen to have a photographer who doesn’t know how to pose you with expertise and intention, what are a few things you should remember?
Here are a few pointers. I call these THE BASIC ART of posing:
1. The Imaginary String:
Let’s get to it. Stand tall and proud. Imagine a gentle string pulling you upward from the crown of your head. This trick creates perfect posture without stiffness, which helps create the most beautiful portraits, whether that’s on a windswept clifftop in Cornwall or at an elegant stately home in Cheshire.
2. Stand With Confident Shoulders:
Roll your shoulders back roughly 1 inch. This little adjustment will help you stand tall and proud and ooze with confidence. Helping you feel amazing in every photo.
3. Weight Distribution:
You want your weight distribution to be uneven, or else your pose will look unnatural. So, how do we solve this?
Here’s how:
- Shift weight to your back leg with a slight bend in the front
- Cross one leg subtly in front of the other
- This works perfectly for those romantic shots against any stunning UK wedding backdrops
Common Wedding Pose Mistakes: How You Can Avoid Them
Most wedding pose mistakes come down to couples feeling stiff and unnatural. That’s why wedding photographers tell couples to pretend they’re not there, but that’s easier said than done. So what are some easy fixes to pose naturally with cameras snapping?
Here’s what not to do:
What To Do Instead:
